If you are into blogging seriously, interested in creating a well routed site and if you look into blogging as career, it is well worthy to invest in a self hosted website. WordPress offers an ocean of features through plugins to make your website clean, beautiful and very functional. Here in this section we will discuss in detail how to create and install a word press blog.
How to create a self hosted website:
1. Choose your domain name: Select a nice catchy name for your domain. If I am given a chance would choose a domain name and url with keywords that drive traffic to the blog. For instance if you blog vegetarian recipes, it makes great sense to fit those words in the domain name and url, but if you are all about being creative and fancy you can always choose a domain name that shows your persona and also spell the theme. Once you have finalized the domain name the next step is to buy the domain.
2. Buy the domain and hosting.
3. Install wordpress, beautify your website and you are done!
Now let us see in detail how to buy hosting and domain. We need a reliable host provider and I recommend bluehost for this.
Bluehost: Bluehost.com is one of the reliable shared host providing service. The pricing starts from $3.49 per month, here you also get your domain space for free. You can purchase your hosting from bluehost and get started with building your website immediately. I have used bluehost for quiet sometime and it is really good, the customer support is exceptional!
Here is a step by step explanation for you to get your food blog up and run through bluehost.
First head to bluehost.com sign up page, select the plan suitable for you. Starter plan is good enough and I personally recommend it.
Next step is to choose the domain name. If you already have a domain you go ahead with hosting, else choose your domain name. With blue host the domain is free when you pay for hosting!
Once you have chosen the domain name, it is time to fill in the account information and package information. Refer the below screen shots.
Once you have finished you will get the blue hot log in details. It is now time to install wordpress through bluehost. Go to website builders and select wordpress.
Next click on start install
Select your domain name
Enter the wordpress admin credentials and complete the install.
Heyyy now you officially own a self hosted wordpress blog 🙂 :):)
Go head and hit publish your first post 🙂
Now that you have your own food blog, its time to make it more presentable and beautiful. Here is where WordPress themes come to rescue. You can either choose a free theme from a ton of themes or you can go for paid ones.
Talking about paid ones, there are two basic themes, thesis and genesis. I personally use genesis framework from studiopress and recommend that one.
Genesis framework with a child theme. You can purchase both genesis frame work and a child theme from studio press or just purchase genesis frame work and outsource the website design for more customized website.
Once you are done with all these, go ahead and say “hello world” 🙂 All the very best and happy blogging 🙂 🙂
