Sambar vada recipe with step by step photos. Crispy and oft medu vadai dunked in a steaming hot bowl of tiffin sambar, topped with onions and coriander leaves – sambar vada is an all time favorite snack/ breakfast. Sambar vada is a very similar preparation like sambar idli. Sambar vada, sambar idli types are very popular in restaurants like saravana bhavan, Ratna cafe etc.
It is very easy to prepare sambar vada, just make medu vada, sambar and the only work is assembling them into sambar vada 🙂 I have already posted detailed recipes for medu vada, tiffin sambar, hotel sambar etc. Here I am quickly showing how to assemble sambar vada.
To make sambar vada recipe you can use either this tiffin sambar or hotel sambar. You can even make with arachuvitta sambar, if you have it handy.

Step by step sambar vada recipe
1. Prepare vadas as mentioned here and keep ready.
2. Make sambar and keep it ready too.
3. Take 3-4 vadas and soak them in hot water for 2 minutes. gently squeeze and place the vadas in a serving plate.
4. Pour hot sambar over it as much as required, top with very finely chopped onions and coriander leaves. Serve sambar vada immediately.

Sambar vada recipe | Medu vadai with hotel sambar recipe
1 CUP = 250 ml
Ingredients
- 10 medu vadas
- 3 cups tiffin sambar
- Finely chopped onions
- Finely chopped coriander leaves.
Instructions
- Prepare vadas as mentioned here and keep ready.
- Make sambar and keep it ready too.
- Take 3-4 vadas and soak them in hot water for 2 minutes. gently squeeze and place the vadas in a serving plate.
- Pour hot sambar over it as much as required, top with very finely chopped onions and coriander leaves. Serve sambar vada immediately.
Notes
2. Sambar should not be very thick or too thin. It should be in a consistency to soak up vadas.
3. Serve immediately after assembling.
