Verkadalai murukku recipe or peanut murukku recipe is a family favorite teatime snack that we often make during festivals. Unlike many common murukku recipes this peanut murukku recipe does not need urad dal flour. Dry roasted and ground peanut gives a wonderful flavor and taste to this murukku. Addition of cumin seeds and sesame seeds give a nice texture and flavor too.
This verkadalai murukku recipe is a vegan one. There is no butter in this recipe. I have used 2 tablespoons hot oil for making the murukku crispy. This time I was able to make perfect round murukku and I was so happy about that 🙂
To make verkadalai murukku recipe we need rice flour, dry roasted peanut flour, roasted gram flour as main ingredients. I have used store bought idiyappam flour. It works very well for me in murukku recipes. This recipe yields about 20 medium sized murukku.

How to make peanut murukku:
1. Roast 1/2 cup unsalted peanuts in a pan. Once slightly charred remove from heat. Rub the peanuts well and remove the skin. Powder the peanuts in a mixer jar. Try to make a fine power as far as possible. Remove to a bowl.

3. Take rice flour, peanut flour, roasted gram flour in a mixing bowl. Add red chili powder, asafoetida, salt, cumin seeds and sesame seeds. Mix well
4.Heat oil for deep frying. Once the oil is hot remove 2 tablespoons of hot oil and add to the flour mixture. Mix well.
5. Add water slowly and knead to a soft pliable dough.
6. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions.
7. take one dough portion and put it in the murukku press. Keep the remaining dough covered.
8. You can press the dough into murukku directly over the hot. That is what I did. If you are not comfortable doing that you can press over wax paper or banana leaf and slide it very gently into the hot oil.
9. Fry 3-4 murukku at a time depending on the size of the pan. Deep fry in medium flame until the sizzling sound ceases and murukku turns golden brown. Cool thoroughly before storing. Serve verkadalai murukku as snack.
